Crystals

The word crystal is derived from the Greek word for ice.

But humans have been drawn to stones and crystals long before the ancient Greeks coined this word.  Wherever traces of human habitation has been found so have talismans, amulets and carved stones and crystals.

The first written records of the value and use of crystals was from the texts by the Ancient Sumerians. The Ancient Egyptian culture also adored crystals and commonly adorned themselves with lapis lazuli, turquoise, carnelian, and clear quartz. Besides being used to heal, soothe and enhance their lives in their solid form, Lapis and Malachite were ground to create eyeshadow.

Crystals have played a part in all religions and are mentioned in the holy texts of Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and the Koran.

There are many examples of gemstones and crystals holding the same properties in cultures scattered throughout the world.  For example, Jade is considered a kidney healing stone by the ancient Chinese, as well as Aztecs and Mayans.  While turquoise has been worn to give strength and health the world over.
